Galante Teaching Studio

Teaching Philosophy

Technique

Establishing a strong foundational approach to instrumental playing will allow each student to express themselves with freedom and control. With my background in the Galamian school of violin playing, my teaching involves an emphasis on scales, etudes, music theory, ear-training, sight-reading and bow technique.

Self-Discipline

Discipline is a quality that can be practiced daily and will have a lasting impact on how an individual carries themselves in this world. Whether you are a seasoned musician or a beginner, working on self motivation in regards to practice and work ethic will have an affect on every facet of daily life. As a teacher, I hope to instill this quality in my students through the creation of individualized practice schedules, weekly check-ins, goal setting and authentic encouragement.

Ergonomics

The art of playing a violin or viola is an unnatural motion for our bodies. By focusing on relaxation in regards to efficiency, dexterity and mobility, my students can expect to feel more connected to their instrument on a physical level. As a certified physical trainer, my knowledge in regards to posture, stretching, warm-up and body awareness is a main focus in regards to my approach as a violist and teacher.

Creativity

The ability to be expressive and be open is at the heart of what a musician does. In my studio I aim to foster an environment of individuality, thoughtful experimentation and vulnerability in regards to expression. Each student has a unique and beautiful creative voice and one of my jobs as a pedagogue is to give the tools and freedom to manifest this voice.
